“There was just my husband and myself at the tea ceremony and we really enjoyed learning about and tasting the different teas and making our own matcha. The room was clean, bright and comfortable and the Tea Master was charming, polite and very knowledgeable and spoke very good English.”

“I was the only participant for the day so it ended being personalized tour, it was very interesting to learn about tea culture and try 4 different teas, I definitely recommend booking this activity, after finishing, you can visit tokyo university and found the hachi statue.”

Diana Laura Larios, Mexico · GetYourGuide · Oct 2026

“The tea master was the kindest lady with great english. She made me feel very comfortable even-though I was solo. Her knowledge is fantastic. It is not done the very old school way, but that doesn’t bother me at all and the tea master explains why. I recommend for a lovely experience. Also very easy to find, about 8 minute walk from the station.”

“It was such brilliant, nice thing to book. Our Tea Master (or more like Mistress :p) Aiko was very, very friendly and explain everything, step after step, telling us interesting trivia. I strongly recommend that, if you like tea, and want to know more about how it's enjoyed ^.^ Tea of course was very tasty, relaxing and refreshing.”

About this experience

Step into the heart of Japanese tradition at the Ocharu Tea Ceremony, right across from Tokyo University.

You start with a cup of wakocha, a Japanese black tea from Shizuoka, with a tea cake. A tea master then brews Gyokuro sencha, the highest grade of green tea, and you taste the leaves with seasonal wagashi from Ougiya.

Next you whisk your own matcha with traditional tools, finish with Genmaicha, and take home a certificate and a group photo.
